California Driver Education

All first-time drivers in California who are ages 14-17 can take this drivers ed course online. However, you must be 15 ½ - 17 ½ years old to apply for a provisional instruction permit. You can then apply for your drivers license once you are 16-17 years old.

If you are already 17 ½ years or older, you do not need to take a drivers ed course unless you want to get your drivers license before turning 18.

If you are already 18 years or older, no drivers ed is required to get a license. You can still take this course though if you just want to prepare for the Knowledge Exam that you will need to take at the DMV to get your license.

This course has been authorized by the State of California and can be taken 100% online without any hassle. Type E2250 on the CA DMV site to search for us.

The Basics:

  • This course is 30 hours in length.
  • The applicant must be at least 14 years old to take the this course.
  • The final exam in this course contains 75 multiple-choice questions. 53 need to be answered correctly to pass.
  • A physical paper certificate is required to prove completion of the course. It is mailed to you in the post and will arrive within 7-10 business days (2 calendar weeks, not including holidays).
