All first-time drivers in California who are ages 14-17 can take this drivers ed course online. However, you must be 15 ½ - 17 ½ years old to apply for a provisional instruction permit. You can then apply for your drivers license once you are 16-17 years old.
If you are already 17 ½ years or older, you do not need to take a drivers ed course unless you want to get your drivers license before turning 18.
If you are already 18 years or older, no drivers ed is required to get a license. You can still take this course though if you just want to prepare for the Knowledge Exam that you will need to take at the DMV to get your license.
