I have an upcoming appointment. Can I get a digital copy of my certificate to bring to the DMV? 

There is no digital copy, as the state of California requires a hard copy of your certificate also known as a “pink slip”. 

We can email you a scan of your certificate upon request. However, we recommend calling your local DMV office to see if they will temporarily accept the PDF scan while you wait for your physical copy to arrive in the mail.

I need my certificate sooner than 7-10 business days. How does expedited shipping work?

You can click here to purchase 3-Day shipping of your certificate for $30. 3-Day expedited shipping guarantees your certificate will arrive within 3 days (not counting the day it is sent or weekends).

Keep in mind, you must purchase 3-Day shipping before 12:00 PM PST for your certificate to be mailed expedited on that day.  For example, if you purchase expedited shipping on Wednesday before 12:00 PM PST, your certificate will be mailed Wednesday and will be guaranteed to arrive by Monday of the upcoming week. If you purchase it Wednesday after 12:00 PM PST, it will be shipped on Thursday and will be guaranteed to arrive by Tuesday of the upcoming week.

How do I get my California certificate of completion to bring to the DMV? 

When you pass the final exam, your certificate will be printed and shipped, within one business day, via First-Class mail to the address entered at the time of registration. Standard delivery is FREE and takes up to 7-10 business days.

Is the price of shipping and the certificate included with the course?

Do I need to finish my course all at once, or can I work on my course over time?

You can complete your course at a pace that works for you. The important thing is to study the information in a way that you will remember and will help you to stay safe on the road. 

Just be aware, your non-refundable application fee and application for your driver’s  license at the DMV are valid for one year. While our certificate of completion never expires, if you take longer than a year to meet all the requirements for a driver’s license, the DMV will require you to reapply.

What is the CA Drivers Ed Online course required for?

This course is required to get a provisional instruction permit between the ages of 15-½ and 17-½ years old. You are not required to take driver’s ed for a provisional instruction permit over 17-½ years old. 

However, if you do not take a driver’s ed course or complete driver training, you must wait until you are 18 years old to get your driver’s license.

How long am I required to hold my provisional instructional permit before I can get a driver’s license?

You must hold your provisional instruction permit for 6 months to be eligible to obtain a Driver's License.

If you are a minor, you will also need to provide proof of your completion of driver education (this 30-hr course) and driver training (6-hrs behind-the-wheel course).

Do you have images and videos in your course? 

Yes. The course is designed to be interactive and engaging.

When I completed the course, there was nowhere to enter my mailing address. Where will you send my certificate of completion?

We use the address entered at the time of registration. To avoid any delays in receiving your certificate, make sure that your complete mailing address is entered accurately. Any typos or missing information, such as a missing apartment number, can result in USPS returning your certificate to the sender.

My certificate needs to be sent to a PO Box rather than a home address. What should I do?

You can enter the PO Box at the time of registration, as the main purpose of entering your address is for us to know where to send your certificate.

If my mailing address has changed since I began the course, how do I update it?

I spelled my name wrong or accidentally used my nickname. How do I update my information?

The state of California requires your legal first and last name to be on your certificate of completion. If you need to make any changes to any information entered at the time of registration, including changes to your name, please feel free to email us at info@usnhsa.com or call us at (800) 829-3727.

Can I use a nickname when I register for the course?

The state of California requires your legal first and last name to appear on your certificate of completion. To avoid any delays in the application process, please enter your legal first and last name at the time of registration.

It’s been over 2 weeks and my certificate still hasn’t arrived. What now?

If it’s been over 7-10 business days (not counting the day your certificate was sent, weekends, or Federal holidays) and you still haven’t received your certificate, please email us at info@usnhsa.com with your full mailing address as it should appear on the envelope, including any apartment information. 

If your address matches the one entered at the time of registration, we will resend your certificate with 3-Day shipping at no extra cost to you. 

If your address has typos, is missing information, or is different from the one entered at the time of registration, we will resend your certificate with First-Class mail (7-10 business days). You can also click here to purchase 3-Day shipping.

Does the certificate of completion for the CA Driver’s Ed Course ever expire?

The certificate of completion or “pink slip” does NOT expire. If the DMV is telling you that your certificate is expired, please contact us at your earliest convenience by emailing info@usnhsa.com or calling (800) 829-3727.

Please take note, while our certificate of completion never expires, your non-refundable application fee and application for your driver’s license at the DMV are valid for a year. I finished the CA Driver’s Ed Course and received my certificate in the mail. What’s next?

The driver’s ed process is split into three parts: driver education, driver training, and supervised driving practice. The certificate you just received covers the 30-hour driver education portion.

Before going to the DMV to continue the process, click here  to fill out your DL 44 application.

At the DMV, you will be required to take a Knowledge Exam. If you get more than 8 questions wrong, you will need to wait an additional 7 days before you can retake it. You can click here to take a free practice test. 

Your provisional instruction permit is not valid until you begin driver training (a 6-hr behind-the-wheel course). After your instructor signs your permit to validate it, you can begin your supervised driving practice. Your parent/guardian or a CA resident with a valid driver’s license over the age of 25 can drive with you. They must fill out a log to record the 50 hours of supervised driving.
