All first-time drivers in Florida who are 14-17 years old, need to complete the NEW 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) Course to apply for a Florida Learners Permit or Drivers License.
If you are ages 18 or older, you can take the FL Traffic Law Substance Abuse Education Course.

The Basics:
- This course is 6 hours in length and is required for all first-time drivers.
- The applicant must be 14-17 years old to take the this course.
- The final exam in this course contains 40 multiple-choice questions. 32 need to be answered correctly to pass.
- A certificate is not required to prove completion of the 6-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety Course. Rather, you will provide your personal information when you register for the course, and these details will be sent along with your completion results to the state of Florida so that they can be verified when you apply for your permit or license. We do send you a completion email once your record has been submitted to the state of Florida.
